They are everything that is embarrassing about being American. "Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake
in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are
dangerous men, for they may act out their dreams with open eyes, to make
it possible.” (T.E. Lawrence) Obedience is not my virtue. This video pretty much blew my mind. Grace Jones is a living legend. We are not pleased with Israel. Meanwhile, I finally put a cap in 'Zero My Hero' and 'Exit Wounds'. Two down, three to go. This EP is happening. If it's the last thing I do. Have a merry New Year, wherever you are, however you live, whoever you
love, whatever you dream. Drioux spent hour after delighted hour playing with his new home defibrillator. Now, he thought, if only I could get my hands on some epinephrine. When asked to comment about his day, he replied, "what can I say? I spent the day in shock." We are very sad about Eartha Kitt. Obama sort of shit the bed with this whole Rick Warren thing, huh? It's always nice to know your vote went to somebody who allows a hatemonger, whom actively endeavors to obstruct your rights, to speak on his behalf and then calls it a "representation of diversity". Whatever. Politics as usual. We are niether surprised or amused. Meanwhile, I'm hoping to have The Nihilist EP finished before
New Years. Yes, you've heard it before - but it's largely in the can. What
remains are touch-ups, and then mixing & mastering. Hopefully I'll have
an update for you in the next week or so about this. You've waited long
enough. So have I. Drioux may induce motion sickness.
We're the only city in the country that shit itself and shut down a big-ass chunk of its infrastructure over an ad campaign. A campaign that's been in place for 2-3 weeks, mind you. This was trumpeted as a "major success" for the city's campaign of civilian vigilance in the 'war on terror'. Except, if the devices in question had actually been bombs, we'd all have been blown to bits weeks ago. If that's success, I think I'll stick to failure.
In more important developments, Molly Ivins died tonight. We are sad. Bravo,
Veronica. Good for you. Watched Pan's Labyrinth last night. Breathtaking and beautiful;
perhaps so much so that it may have displaced one of my previous Top 10
films. I'll have to see it on DVD a few times before I can declare that
without a doubt. But I was very moved by it.
Getting up at 5:30 in the morning to go to the gym feels utterly perverse. Unnatural! I'm much more inclined to... recline. And watch the wheels roll by without me. At least, I am at 5:30 in the morning. Saints perserve us. To say nothing of the fact that it's "16º, feels like 1º"
outside. Food poisoning is not fun. Mr. Shota tells me he has
'101' as his mobile ringtone. I'm a ringtone! I have arrived. Naturally I discovered only too late that there was a local screening tonight of Matthew Barney's Cremaster 5.
Meanwhile, some interesting reading about the idea of 'transhumanism'- the concept of eliminating human imperfection through genetic engineering. I heart Wikipedia, imperfect though she may be. Live in fear. Recently watched "Volver" and "Notes on A Scandal"- both highly recommended. Next on my list, "Pan's Labyrinth", "Babel" and the Jonestown documentary. "Primeval" is apparently about a prolifically lethal crocodile; We Are Not Amused. Dodged that bullet at least. A new 'Salon' (see link above) has been established; this one hopefully
without the peril of hacking. Unfortunately we'll all have to register
again, and none of the old databases are available to it. Ah well, a clean
slate never hurt anybody did it? January 20, 2005 - "What is essential is invisible to the eye." To some modern western astrologers, Pluto is the ruling planet of Scorpio. Called "the great renewer", Pluto is considered to represent the part of a person that destroys in order to renew. A commonly used keyword for Pluto is "transformation." Many (traditional and modern) astrologers do not use Pluto as a ruling planet but do use the planet for chart interpretation and predictive work. Pluto is also associated with extreme power and corruption and the discovery of Pluto in 1930 coincided with the rise of Fascism in Europe and the major proliferation of organized crime in the USA. It is also associated with nuclear armament which had its genesis in the research of that decade. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freemasonry December 14, 2005 The three golden rules for living among the human species: 1. Always be polite and courteous December 3, 2005 Assassin, n. [French, from Medieval Latin assassinus, from Arabic ---, pl. of ---, hashish user, from ---, hashish. See hashish.] A member of a secret order of Muslims who terrorized and killed Christian Crusaders and others. Word History: At first glance, one would be hard-pressed to find a link between pleasure and the acts of assassins. Such was not the case, however, with those who gave us the word assassin. They were members of a secret Islamic order originating in the 11th century who believed it was a religious duty to harass and murder their enemies. The most important members of the order were those who actually did the killing. Having been promised paradise in return for dying in action, the killers, it is said, were made to yearn for paradise by being given a life of pleasure that included the use of hashish. From this came the name for the secret order as a whole, an, “hashish users.” After passing through French or Italian, the word came into English and is recorded in 1603 with reference to the Muslim Assassins. Intifada, n. [Arabic intifada, shudder, awakening, uprising, from ---, to be shaken, wake up, derived stem of ---, to shake. See -- in Semitic Roots.] Copyright ©2008 |
